I know what it's like to care for loved ones. My mother suffered from dementia and my dad battled cancer. The stories of their care were polar opposite. My mother died of neglect in a facility within a week of her admission. My father required 24/7 in-home care in the final months of his life. Both situations taught me a lot about elder care and advocacy.

I was once told no one will care as much as you do. While that may be true, finding someone with compassion and understanding of this stage of life is a close second. I've always had a heart for seniors. It can be frightening and isolating. Many don't know how to advocate for themselves or are reluctant to for fear of retaliation. That's where The Elder Ally comes in. I will be their advocate, ensuring their needs and desires are met.
I hold a Master's degree in Human Services Counseling with an emphasis in crisis and trauma. As I spend time with your loved one, I'll notice changes in behaviors, attitudes, and cognition. While I'm not a licensed counselor, I can help your loved one navigate current emotions and suggest resources either they or you, as their representative, can pursue.
Elder abuse and neglect are the leading complaints within care facilities. Having been directly impacted by negligent nursing home care, you can bet I'm determined to ensure others don't suffer. And as various caregivers rotated through my father's home, I kept a close eye on how they cared for him and carried out their duties.
As a certified long-term care ombudsman in the state of Florida, I have open access to facility staff and specific records. This allows me to affect more direct and immediate change if I note deficiencies in residential care.
